OBJECTIVE INSTRUMENTS Flashcards
used to measure the anterior curvature of the cornea.
Keratometer (B &L)
Also known as:
CI Ophthalmometer (AO)
Universal Ophthalmometer (Javal-Schiotz)
What are the functions of Lensometer?
Used to find the ff:
a. Effective power of spheres & cylinders
b. Power & direction of prism
c. Axis of cylindrical lenses optical center of lenses
d. Power of bifocal segments used for setting & marking a lens for cutting, etc.
used for viewing the interior portion of the eye particularly the fundus to rule out pathology
Ophthalmoscope (Funduscope)
What are the other names of Lensometer
Vertometer (B & L), Lensmeter (Japan), Refractionometer (Carl Zeiss - Germany)
used to measure the diameter of the pupil & interpupillary distance (P.D.)
Pupillometer (Centrometer)
a microscope to which beamsplitter & illuminated reticle have been added that is used to measure contact lenses
Radiuscope
used to measure the refractive error of the eye basing on the fundus reflex movement.
Retinoscope (Skiascope)
a biomicroscope used in diagnosis of eye conditions
Slit lamp biomicoscope
What are the structures observed in the slit lamp biomicroscope?
lid margins, cilia, puncta,
caruncle, conjunctiva, cornea, ant. Chamber, limbus,
aqueous, ant. Lens capsule, iris & pupil margins
used to measure intra-ocular pressure (IOP).
Tonometer
Consists of a biomicroscope used in conjunction with a
prismatic contact lens, for viewing the filtration angle of the anterior chamber
Gonioscope
What are the three types of Tonometer
Schiotz, Goldmann, Tono-pen
