Obesity meaning
Excess of fat, obesity usually is assessed by the relationship between weight and height (ie, anthropometrics)
How to measure obesity?
The body mass index (BMI) is the accepted standard measure of overweight and obesity for children > two years
Weight in relation to height and is =
to the body weight (in kilograms) / height (in meters) ^2
Definition in BMI
Normal weight – BMI between the 5th and <85th percentile for age and sex.
Overweight – BMI between >85th and 95th percentile for age and sex.
Obese – BMI ≥95th percentile for age and sex.
Etiology
Environmental factors: Almost all obesity in children is strongly influenced by environmental factors, caused by either a sedentary lifestyle or a caloric intake that is greater than needs.
