Nutritional Principles Flashcards
What are the 9 nutritional principles
- Macronutrient requirements
- Energy Requirements
- Energy availability
- Body composition
- Micronutrient intake
- Hydration
- Periodisation
- Ergogenic aids
- Scientific principles
Explain energy availability
amount of energy available to sustain physiological function after subtracting the energetic cost of exercise
Low energy availability
undereating related to eating disorders. Caused by dietary behaviour and exercise environment. LEA can negatively impact fluence muscular adaptations i.e. endurance and strength
what are ergogenic aids
technique/substance used for the purpose of enhancing performance eg. electrolytes, caffeine, whey protein powder
Athlete Individual factor
age, sex, body comp, goals, physiology, activety level, dietary considerations,nutrition/health status, lifestyle factors
Event characteristics
- Travel/ Training, 2. Weight category? 3.knowledge of energy systems 4. Team or individual 5. Training vs competitive strategies 6. Rules/ Sheduling 7. Rec or elite 8.Requirements - how will energy be generated?
Energy systems
PCR hydrolsis= creatine phosphate - adp to atp = short term
Glycolysis= carb to pyruvate
Aerobic = krebs cycle+ electron transport chain
