Objective: compare measurement of biochemical analytes before and after feedign on 100 healthy dogs >15kg.
Intervention: food witheld for 10-26hrs, then fed 2/3 their RER, assessed reported allowable total error (TEa) for analytes
Results: Dogs with at least one meaurement >TEa = 92% for triglycerides, 66% for BUN, 46% for phos, 17% for glucose, 9% bilirubin 5% SDMA, 2% creatinine, and 0% for cholesterol and albumin. Post prandial lipase never exceeded RI in dogs with normal fasted lipase
Conclusion: Witholding food is generally not necessary before routine biochemistry in healthy dogs. Might help to limit variablity in triglycerides and phosphorus.

Background: Use of NO tubes at home could reduce cost and facilitate enteral feeding until recovery of appetite
Population: 119 animals 90 cats and 29 dogs, discharged wth NFT for minimum 24hrs
Results: Feedign tubes in place for median 6d (1-17), 62% animals recovered appetite whilst wearing NFT, complication rate 65.5%, only 18.5% required a consultation with no life threatening complications. Owners satisfied in 94% cases
Conclusion: Many complications, althogh no major adverse effects reported and NFT were easily handled by owners

Objective: Randomized, blinded, controlled trial. To compare a hydrolsed fish diet with/without probiotics and cobalamin (HF/HF+) to a limited ingredient diet in dogs with non PLE CE and dogs with PLE
Population: 31 dogs wth CE 23 non-PLE and 8 PLE
Results: 19/23 (83%) non-PLE dogs responded to initial diet. There was no difference between diets. 4/4 non-responders responded to another diet with sustained remission of 18/19 at 26 weeks. Serum cobalamin was increased and maintained by diet. Sermu folate decreased but was normalised and maintained by diet.
Conclusion: Changing diet, independent of antigen restriction or supplemental ingredients, induced remission in dogs with non-PLE CE. Serum cobalamin and folate concentrations were maintained by diet. Hydrolyzed fish diets supported clinical recovery and remission in PLE.

Background: melanocortin 4 antagonist TCMCB07 is safe and effective in reversing cachexia caused by sepsis or cancer in rodents and in healthy beagle dogs.
Population: 14 dogs with cachexia of any cause except GIT/oral neoplasia
Results: All dogs completed the trial. Significant changes: Increased mean body weight, increased body condition score and WSAVA muscle condition and increased BUN. owners perceived their dogs were panting less and had an improvement in general health. 4 dogs had coat pigment changes. Peak plasma concentrations were similar to healthy dogs
Conclusion: TCMCB07 was safe and has potential efficacy in dogs with cachexia
