NPD Practitioner
One who practices NPD (includes NPD generalist and specialist)
NPD Generalist
BSN with or without NPD certification OR MSN without NPD certification
NPD Specialist
Graduate preparation PLUS Certification in NPD (must have certification to demonstrate specialty knowledge.
ANPD Mission
To advance quality health care by defining and promoting nursing professional development practice.
ANPD Vision
The thought leader and resource for nursing professional development.
Standards of NPD Practice
Delineate the acceptable level of quality for the specialty practice.
Application Standards of NPD Practice
Application is dependent on practice setting, population of learners, and knowledge, educational level, and experience in role.

Standard 2: Identification of Learning Needs
Standard 3: Outcome Identification
Standard 4: Planning
Standard 5: Implementation (includes coordination, facilitation of positive learning and practice environments, and consultation)
Standard 6: Evaluation
Note: These are the standards for both a generalist and specialist. Specialist does have additional standards.
Systems Theory
Emphasizes the interaction and connectedness of different components and complex elements. Includes: inputs, throughputs, outputs, and feedback.
Provides workable framework for planning, implementing, and evaluating a process, project, or educational program.
