Nucleic Acids Flashcards
1
Q
What three subunits are nucleotides made up of?
A
- Phosphate group (circle)
- Pentose sugar (pentagon)
- Nitrogenous base (square)
2
Q
What are the four bases called?
A
Adenine Guanine Thymine Cytosine (Uracil in RNA)
3
Q
What is nucleic acid?
A
A chain of nucleotides bonded together.
4
Q
How does RNA differ from DNA?
A
Ribose sugar
Single stranded
Uracil instead of thymine
5
Q
What is mRNA?
A
A copy of one gene
6
Q
What is tRNA?
A
Two binding sites: one for amino acids, and oneness or mRNA.
Works by bringing in the correct amino acids to the ribosome in the correct sequence.
7
Q
What is mRNA codon?
A
The sequence of amino acids produced for mRNA.
8
Q
What is tRNA anticodon?
A
Sequence for the ribosome.
