Definition of Accident (NTSB 830.2)
An occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft which
1) takes place between the time a person boards an aircraft with the intention of flight
2) and all such persons have disembarked,
and
1) any person suffers death or serious injury; or
2) aircraft receives substantial damage
Definition of Serious Injury (NTSB 830.2)
Any injury which:
1) requires hospitalization for more than 48 hours commencing within 7 days from the date of the injury was received;
2) results in fracture of any bone (except simple fractures of fingers, toes, or noes);
3) causes severe hemorrhages, nerve, muscle, or tendon damage;
4) involves any internal organ; or
5) involves second- or third-degree burns, or any burns affecting more than 5 percent of the body surface
Definition of Fatal Injury (NTSB 830.2)
Any injury which results in death within 30 days of the accident
Definition of Incident (NTSB 830.2)
An occurrence, other than an accident, associated with the operation of an aircraft, which affects or could affect the safety of operations

A CUTOFFS CAP
Accident causing death, serious injury substantial damage
Collision (in flight)
Unable to perform duties (in-flight injury/illness)
Turbine engine component failure (uncontained)
Overdue aircraft and believed accident
Flight control malfunction/failure
Fire (in-flight)
Substantial damage (main or tail rotor) requiring major repair/replacement
Complete loss of information system ( > 50% of available displays)
ACAS traffic resolution requiring deviation (IFR Flight Plan)
Property damage other than aircraft > $25,000
