What is a common noun?
A common nouns is a noun that represents unspecific people, places or things.
e.g. cat, cow, girl, house, road..
What is a proper noun?
A proper noun is a noun that refers a specific person, place or thing. They always should begin with a capital letter.
e.g- Tesco, Matilda, Wiltshire
What is a singular noun?
A singular noun is a noun that refers to just one person, place or thing.
e.g- dog, cat, hat, shoe
Wet is a plural noun?
A plural noun is a noun that refers to more then one of something. Most singular nouns can be turned in to a plural noun by just adding ‘s’ to the ned or if it already ends in ‘s’ then adding an ‘es’ or ‘yes’ instead
e.g.- girls, cups, tables, babies, glasses
What is a concrete noun?
A concrete noun is a word that can be experienced through at least one of the five senses. So if you can see, hear, smell, touch or taste something it is a concrete noun.
e.g- rock, table, flour, flower, trumpet
What is an abstract noun?
An abstract noun is noun that can’t be exprienced through one of the five senses and are usually a concept, quality or condition.
e.g.- love, justice, bravery, education
Describe the difference between an abstract noun and a verb-
Most abstract nouns and verbs over cross in the word classes like the word love but the way they are used would be slightly different-
-love as a verb would show an action of love- I love my piano. (shows the action of expressing love)
-love as a abstract noun- Send him my love. (The word now is a noun it is a thing)
What is a collective noun-
A collective noun is a noun that refers to a group of things that function as one unit or perform the same action collectively.
e.g- army, crown, team, flock
What is a compound noun?
A compound noun is a noun that combines words into one rather appearing as; a single word, multiple separate words or hyphenated words.
e.g- lunch time, head girl, dry-cleaning
What is a countable noun?
A countable noun is a noun that can be counted and these are the only type of nouns that can have A/An in front if them.
e.g -Dog, bottle, coin, cup
What is and uncountable noun-
An uncountable noun is a noun that can’t be counted and they also don’t typically have plural forms.
e.g- rice, salt, seafood, love
What is a noun phrase?
A noun phrase is a small group of words contains a noun but with no verb, usually is a noun plus other words to describe it.
e.g. THAT NEW PINK BIKE is mine.
What is an expanded noun phrase?
An extended noun phrase adds more detail to noun by adding one or more adjectives.
e.g- a HUGE tree, a tree NEXT TO THE HOUSE.
