16
Q

Acute sinusitis

A

Inflammation of mucosal lining and paranasal sinuses secondary to viral infection

17
Q

How does acute sinusitis come about

A

Primary infection leads to reduced ciliary function and sinus ostia and increased nasal secretions
But drainage is impeded and stagnant secretions ideal for breeding bacteria.

18
Q

What bacteria usually cause acute sinusitis

A

Streptococcus pneumoniae, haemophilus influenzae
