For North America, the more specific the area, the more % grapes must come from that place:
If a specific County, State, County- 75% grapes must be from there
If an AVA is named- 85%
If a vineyard is names - 95%
Wines that are under 14% alcohol- they pay less taxes

California, Oregon and Washington have stricter labeling laws than the federal level
If a wine is labelled from CA- 100% of the grapes must be from CA!
WA-95%
OR-90% for Pinot Noir and a few others

Cab Sauvignon- 40%
Chardonnay is second, Merlot is third

Mendicino County AVA is largest AVA or North Coast AVA also has largest organic grape acreage in the US
Anderson Valley s most important AVA in Mendicino
Central Coast AVA is biggest in CA- (includes SF) all the way to Santa Barbara
