Legal significance of domesday book
It had a role of solving arguments over land as many Anglo Saxons claimed their land was taken away, allowing for people to see who owned what.
Military Significance
In 1085, there were threats of Vikings invading. William took Normans and gave them houses with landholders in England. The domesday book would keep this organised so that they knew where the soldiers were if they were to be invaded.
Financial significance of domesday book
Lots of William’s Barons had special privileges of not paying geld tax on some land which was introduced before his reign. William might have wanted to remove these privileges for more money. He did this in 1084 and 1086. This means he could also see which baron had the most finance and could pay him the most.
