Babinski reflex
Stroke the bottom of the neonate’s foot upward along the lateral aspect them along the ball of the foot with a finger.
Toes will hyperextended while big toe dorsiflexes reflex present for a year.
Tonic neck reflex
Quickly gently turn neonate’s head to one side
Arm and leg should extend outward to the side toward which the head was turned while opposite arm and leg flex
Reflex present for 3-4 months.
Moro reflex
Neonate in semi-sitting position
Trunk and head are allowed to fall backward
Will symmetrically abduct and extend the arms. Fingers fan out and form a “C” with thumb and forefinger.
Reflex present for 8 weeks
Startle reflex
Loud clapping noise
Arms adduct while elbows flex
Present for 4 months
Fluid intake for adequate breast milk production
8-10 gl of 8 oz fluid daily
