Normal Menstration Flashcards
1
Q
What are the layers of the endometrium?
A
Functional and basalis
2
Q
What are the 3 phases of the mentral cycle? Days?
A
- Menstrual phase (1-4) drop in E&P cause break down of functional layer
- Proliferate phase( 5-14): follicle grows producing increasing estrogen which promotes the growth of endometrium and inhibits LH(this theca and progest)
- Secretory phase(14-28) high estrogen causes + feedback on LH causing theca to increase progesterone = stabilizing endometrium.
3
Q
@d28 what happens if prego?
A
bhCG produced by implanted egg supports CL allowing it to continue to produce progesterone until wk 10 when placenta takes over allowing CL to degrade, bhcg levels to fall but E&P levels maintained
4
Q
LD estrogen will….
A
Inhibit LH(test+P)
5
Q
HD estrogen will….
A
Stimulate LH(test+P)
6
Q
Progesterone inhibits…
A
FSH
7
Q
Inhibit comes from….and inhibits….
A
FSH, from granulosa cells
8
Q
Prolactin production is triggered by…
A
TSH, D will block prolactin
9
Q
What happens during the menstrual phase?
A
- Menstrual phase (1-4) drop in E&P cause break down of functional layer = period
10
Q
What happens during the proliferation phase?
A
- Proliferate phase( 5-14): follicle grows producing increasing estrogen which promotes the growth of endometrium and inhibits at LD LH(this theca and progest)
11
Q
What happens during the secretory phase?
A
- Secretory phase(14-28) high estrogen causes + feedback on LH causing theca to increase progesterone = stabilizing endometrium.
* spike in progesterone and inhibit will both block FSH decreasing estrogen and resetting the cycle.
