limit age = age when skill should have been acquired by 97.5% of children (2SD)
what are the principles of development (5)
continuous process, maturation of nervous system, sequence same but rate varies, cephalocaudal direction, generalised mass activity changing to more specific controlled movement
what are the different areas of development (4)
gross motor, fine motor and vision, language and hearing, social behaviour and play
what are some of the primitive reflexes are in place before motor skill develop
sucking and rooting, palmar and plantar grip
what is the ATNR
asymmetric tonic neck reflex, stops baby rolling of surfaces by putting arm out
(sometimes called “fencing reflex”)
