Non-Systems: Therapeutic Modalities: Ultrasound: Procedures Flashcards
1
Q
Contact
A
- Direct
2
Q
Sound head size
A
- One half the ERA
3
Q
Movement
A
- Slow
- 1.5 inches/sec
- Each movement covers one half the previous cycle
4
Q
Size of field application
A
- Do not cover an area greater than two to three times the size of the ERA per 5-10 minute of treatment
- If an area larger than this needs to be covered then two separate ultrasound treatments should be performed
5
Q
Increase intensity when
A
- Sound head is in contact with the skin
6
Q
Treatment Intensity
A
- Low intensities for acute conditions or thin tissue
- Higher intensities for chronic conditions and thick tissue
7
Q
Periosteal Pain
A
- May occur if treatment head stops moving, is moving to slow or intensity is too high.
- Stop and readjust treatment parameters
8
Q
Treatment Time
A
- 3-10 minutes
9
Q
Indirect Contact
A
- For irregular body parts
10
Q
Indirect Contact: Parameters
A
- Enough water to cover treatment area
- Plastic container as opposed to metal
- Place sound head and body part in water and keep sound head 1 cm from body part
- If using stationery technique then use pulsed ultrasound
