> itchy
thrush
thick increased cottage cheese discharge
how is vulvovaginal candidosis diagnosed?
> history > examination: - fissuring - erythema (satellite lesions) - discharge > gram stained preparation > culture
how is vulvovaginal candidosis managed?
> maintain skin - treating dermatitis - avoid irritants > azole antifungals - clotrimazole 500mg PV - fluconazole 150mg PV > check species and sensitivities if resistant
what is the pathology of bacterial vaginosis?
> imbalance of bacteria > biofilm problem - increased urea plasma - increased garanerella - increased mycoplasma - increased anaerobes - reduced bacilli
what are the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis?
> asymptomatic
sore/itch
watery grey/yellow, fishy discharge
worse after period or sex
what complications are associated with bacterial vaginosis?
> increased risk of HIV acquisition
associated with premature labour
associated with endometritis if there is uterine instrumentation or delivery
how do you diagnose bacterial vaginosis?
> history
examination
gram stain smear of discharge
what is the management of bacterial vaginosis?
> clindamycin
> metronidazole (oral or vaginal gel)
what is zoon’s balanitis?
chronic inflammation secondary to overgrowth of commensal organism
what organisms cause impetigo?
> staph aureus
> strep. pyogenes
what organism causes erysipelas?
group A strep.
