A group of Lymphomas
(whereas HL is a specific type of lymphoma)

What is the difference between the pathophysiology of NHL and HL?
- HL: Mature B cells –> Hodgkin / Reed-Sternberg cells
- NHL: B / T cells affected @ various stages of maturation
What are the RF for NHL? (5 things)
- HIV
- EBV
- H pylori (–> MALT lymphoma)
- Hep B / C
- FHx
Are the CF of NHL similar to HL?
Yes
What are the CF of NHL? (4 things)
- Lymphadenopathy
- B symptoms (fever, night sweats, WL)
- Pruritis (but more common in HL)
- Hepatosplenomegaly
What is dangerous about NHL?
Can present with Oncological emergencies
What are some Oncological emergencies NHL can present with? (4 things)
- Superior vena cava obst (SVCO)
- Cord compression
- Hypercalcaemia
- Neutropenic sepsis
What investigations should you do for sus NHL? (4 things)
- Excision biopsy (GOLD)
- Bloods
- CXR
- MRI brain / spine (if neurological CF)
What bloods should you do for sus NHL? (5 things)
- FBC
- UnE
- LFT
- LDH (raised)
- Viral screening tests (Hep B/C, HIV)
What signs are you looking for in UnEs of NHL?
AKI from obst nephropathy
What will a FBC show in NHL? (4 things)
- Anaemia
- Thrombocytopaenia
- Neutropenia
- Lymphocytosis
What will a CXR show in NHL? (3 things)
- Mediastinal adenopathy
- Pleural / pericardial effusions
- Parenchymal involvement
What investigations will help you with Staging NHL? (2 things)
- CT chest / abd / pelvis
- PET
