what is hesitation and fillers?
sounds used to fill a pause rather than it falling silent
e.g. er, um, right, and
what is self correction?
correcting a mistake; usually the wrong lexical choice by the speaker (e.g. we’ve got to go buy three (.) no (.) four packets)
non-fluent pausing?
pauses that occur at points where grammatical completeness has not occurred, indicated by numbers in brackets to show the length of the pause
(e.g. that the (1) third road (.) on the left (.) then (2) straight on)
what are false starts?
a construction which is abandoned before it is complete and a new one follows instead
(e.g. I was walking… it started this morning)
what is non-fluent repetition?
the repetition of a word or phrase - other than when it occurs deliberately for emphasis
(e.g. I am (.) I am trying)
what is recycling?
the need for more than one attempt to utter a word or phrase
e.g. she was suffering from pa-paralysis I think
