Q

Advantages of Aluminium

A
  • relatively inexpensive
  • corrosion resistant
  • easily coloured by anodization
  • conducts electricity
  • when polished, highly reflective
    ductile & malleable
  • impermeable
  • odourless
  • not magnetic
  • good strength to weight ratio
  • easy recycled
  • lightweight
  • abundant - readily available in different stock forms
  • easy to work, casts well, low(ish) melting point

Q

Disadvantages of Aluminium

A
  • difficult to weld
  • painting processes do not bond well - specialised paints must be used/ must be anodized - added expenses
  • not INCREDIBLY strong
  • not hard (scratches easily)
  • can crack under stress

Advantages of Zinc

A
  • easily worked
  • corrosion resistant
  • improves casting in alloys (more fluid and reduces MP) - makes casting CHEAPER
  • casts well
