Explain the Laser triangulation technology

1) A light source projects a beam onto the object
2) Part of this beam is reflected back onto a detector
3) Depending on position of the reflected beam on detector, the distance to the object is calculated
4) A change in distance of the object normal to the beam causes the position of the incoming beam on the sensor/detector to change
5) This change in proportion to the distance the object has moved
