Machine tool analysis - Kinematic performance Flashcards
How do laser interferometers work?
They use a phenomenon called interference
The laser beam is split, one part being reflected by a fixed reflector, and the other by a moving one.
Overlaying them results in a fringe pattern (the beams interfere constructively or destructively)
Half a wavelength moves from dark back to dark.
Explain the linear measurement point approach
Measuring points are approach sequentially in one direction. At each point, feed is stopped to dampen vibrations
As the machine moves from one point to another, the interference provide information about the exact DISTANCE of movement
Once forward movement is done, the same approach is done but in the reverse direction
Explain the pendulum approach
Forward and reverse direction for each point are done consecutively. Literally like a pendulum
