Q

What’s the difference between 3 axis and 5 axis probes?

A

1) 5 axis uses a motorised probe holder rather than standard one
2) 3 axis probe can be tilted but remains fixed during scanning but the 5 axis can operate in all 2 axes during scanning

Q

Whats the difference between conventional touch probes and scanning probes

A

Conventional tour probes record the increase in resistance due to contact between stylus and part which causes deflection of stylus seat, the amount of tilt and direction of tilt is not determined
Scanning probes determine the amount and direction of tilt caused by this contact.
