Why are CMM’s operated in temperature controlled rooms?
A
Because combining granite and aluminium can cause problems like thermal distortion of the structure

Why are air bearings used instead of Roller or Oil bearings
A
They allow the axis move with very little effort

Why are linear encoders used instead of rotary encoders
A
The use of linear encoders enhances the accuracy of CMMs as it reduces the position error of the touch probe (Errors are recognised and can be compensated for)
