what is a risk factor
any attribute/characteristic/exposure of an individual that increases the likelihood of developing a disease or injury
what is a correlation
a pattern that occurs that could indicate a relationship between 2 things
how does diet affect non communicable disease
high in sat fats ➡️ increased risk of chd
lack of balanced diet➡️ nutrient deficincies eg scurvy
lack of water➡️ muscle cramps, kidney damage
how does exercise impact non communicable disease
cardio➡️decreases risk of heart disease
releases endorphins➡️ ‘happy’ chemicals
what does carbon monoxide do to your blood
it reduces the oxygen carrying capacity of blood
what happens when carbon monoxide binds to haemoglobin
not a reversible bond ➡️ oxygen and carbon dioxide can no longer be carried
