Factors which increase your chance of getting a certain disease, often lifestyle, the environment and substances in the body.

Directly cause cardiovascular disease, lung disease and lung cancer by damaging the arteries and cells lining the lungs.
What may happen if a woman smokes while pregnant?
Could cause premature births, still births, miscarriages or smaller babies.
Obesity can directly cause what?
Type 2 diabetes as the body is less resistant to insulin so it is difficult to control the concentration of glucose in the blood.
Drinking too much alcohol can what?
Cause liver disease and affect brain function by damaging nerve cells in the brain.
Drinking/ smoking while pregnant can what?
Cause health problems for the unborn baby.

Exposure to certain substances or radiation known as carcinogens.
