adam’s position
patient bends forward at the waist, doctor observes for any change in scoliosis as the patient flexes forward at the waist
amoss sign
when patient gets up from a lying position, the doctor observes for any pain and upper body strength
beevor’s sign
patient is lying supine, lifts head from up off the table and lifts legs off the table. if there is a problem, then the umbilicus will deviate opposite the direction of abdominal muscle weakness
chest expansion test
patient is standing. doctor wraps tape measure around 4th intercostal space. have patient to inhale and exhale maximally
forestier bowstring sign
patient stands, bends laterally from side to side
rib motion test
doctor places both hands on patient’s chest at the sternocostal angle while patient is supine. doctor is observing for movement of ribs as patient inhales and exhales
Schepelmann’s sign
patient is seated ith arms extended over head and laterally flexes to left and right
antalgia sign
doctor watches for patient to maintain a posture to alleviate pain
straight leg raiser
patient is supine, doctor raises leg with knee straight and keeps going until there is pain
bragards sign
if a patient has a positive straight leg raiser, doctor lowers leg a little and dorsiflexes the foot and asks if there’s pain
sicard’s sign
if straight leg raiser and bragards’ sign is positive, bring leg down and dorsiflex big toe
bechterew’s test
patient is seated on table with back straight, patient extends leg. if no pain, put pressure on thigh and have them extend again
kernig
patient lays supine, doctor flexes leg to 90 degrees and extends leg
brudzinski
patient supine, doctor flexes sternum toward xiphoid process
lasegue
patient supine and flexes leg to 90 degrees. doctor extends leg
lindner’s sign
patient is supine or seated and doctor flexes head toward xiphoid process
milgram’s
patient lifts legs 6 inches off table and holds there for 30 seconds
minor sign
patient has to use upper body strength to get up from a sitting position
nachalas’s
patient is prone, doctor flexes patient’s leg to ipsilateral buttocks
quick test
patient bends to a squatting position and bounces up and down 3 times
bilateral leg lowering test
patient is supine. doctor brings legs up as far as they will go, patient brings them down slowly.
doctor tells them to stop at 45 degrees before going all the way down
slump test
patient is seated and maximally slumped. have them extend their knee
crossed straight leg raiser
