VASODILATOR - relaxes vascular smooth muscle, decreases arterial blood pressure, reduces myocardial O2 consumption, decreases venous return
Indicated for
angina, perioperative hypertension, CHF associated with MI, Raynaud’s Disease (given topically) (wow who knew not me)
Nitroglycerin - side effects
think VASODILATION - flushing, hypotension, HEADACHE, tachycardia (rebound), dizziness + blurred vision
nitro - nursing considerations
renew supply EVERY 3 MONTHS
AVOID ALCOHOL, q5minx3

isosorbide - side effects
headache + orthostatic hypotension. So… change positions slowly, take it BETWEEN MEALS, and DON’T D/C ABRUPTLY YOU MUST TAPER OFF LIKE MANY OTHER THINGS SUCH AS TETRACYCLINES (?)
