Q

General considerations

A

neutralizes gastric acids, raises gastric pH, inactivates pepsin
may cause acid rebound between doses/metabolic acidosis.
Absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, phenothiazides, iron preparations, isoniazid reduced if given with antacids.
Oral contraceptives and salicylates effectiveness- decreased
