What is an NIP?
Notice of intended prosecution
Notice to ensure rider or driver knows the offence they have committed
To ensure he/she knows they may be prosecuted for that offence
To allow driver or rider to prepare a defence
What Offences require a NIP?
D - Dangerous, careless or inconsiderate driving or cycling
E - exceeding the speed limit
F - fail to conform to direction given by PC engaged in regulation of traffic
F - failing to conform to certain traffic signs
L - leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position
A - aiding and abetting any of these offences
What 3 ways can a NIP be given?
Verbally at the time of offence
Written notice on driver or keeper of vehicle within 14 days off offence
Serving a summons on offender within 14 days of offence
