Q

what is next generation sequencing? what’s the difference between Sanger and NGS

A

much more efficient when sequencing many genes. can sequence millions of sequences at a time (compared to only one at a time with Sanger sequencing)

Q

what are the steps to next generation sequencing?

A

1) amplification of target sequences (genome cut into pieces)
2)simultaneous sequencing of millions of target sequences
3) use software to interpret/analyze sequencing data

Q

what are the differences between Sanger and NGS?

A

NGS: can sequence millions to billions of fragments in parallel, shorter fragments but there’s millions and billions of them

Sanger: 1 fragment at a time, longer fragments

Q

is Sanger of NGS more cost effective?
