Newtons Laws Flashcards
First Law
Referred to as the Law of Inertia. An object will stay in place or stay in motion at the same speed and velocity unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. A car moves forward as the road provides an unbalanced force against the car allowing it to move forward. Another unbalanced force that slows and object down is friction that prevents an object from moving along the ground.
Second Law
The force is equal to the change in momentum per change in time for a constant mass. It is written as F = M*A. If you double the force, you double the acceleration but if you double the mass, you halve the acceleration.
Third Law
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that there is a pair of forces acting on an object. They are equal. An example is a birds flight. When it pushes air down with its wings, the air also pushes the bird up.
