Q

What is the Pulse oximetry Pilot Study?

A

The national standard during an antenatal screening is only 50% of abnormalities are detected
During antenatal booking you have to ask the right questions to see if any direct family had any genetic disorders.
The (colour flow doppler) scan will show abnormal blood flow in the heart → 1 in 10 babies to have a cardiac condition if the family has a cardiac condition history.
3 in 10 babies born with a mother with diabetes can have a cardiac condition.
The second time is the very first examination at birth
Physiological heart mumur- due to the difference in fetal circulation → different blood flow
Pulse oximetry is a probe that is put on the foot or the hand so measure the blood flow going back to the heart (6-8 hours after the birth).
