S/S newborn illness→ call HCP
-Temp above 100.4 or continual rise in temp
-Forceful or frequent vomiting
-Refusal of 2 feedings in a row
-Difficult to awaken
-Cyanosis
-Absence of breathing for 20+ seconds
-Inconsolable or continuous high pitched cry
-Discharge or bleeding from cord, circumcision, or any opening
-No wet diapers for 18-24h, fewer than 6-8 wet diapers per day
-Development of eye drainage (some may be okay, but normally indicates infection)
Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) S/S?
high pitched cry, restless, seizure, vomit, mottled
NAS complications
respiratory distress, jaundice, congenital abnormalities, IUGR, withdrawal

Buprenorphine
Finnegan score
dynamic, severity of withdrawal, score 2h after birth then q4h and after feeding
Supportive treatment for NAS
calm environment (CNS agitated), cluster care
