Q

The Woman and Simon the Pharisee

A

Jesus was having supper at Simon the Pharisee’s house. Suddenly a woman burst through the room and started wetting Jesus’s feet with her tears, dried them with her hair and the sprayed perfume over them. Simon was surprised that Jesus let a sinner touch him, but Jesus told a parable about two men who owed money. One owed 50 and the other owed 500 denarii. Jesus then asked who would be more thankful if he forgave both their debts. Simon answered correctly that it was the one that owed the most money. Jesus then said that because the woman had shown such care and love over him, most of her sins where forgiven. Some people question this as only God can forgive sins.

The lawyer then asked who was his neighbour, Jesus told the following parable.

A man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho
He was robbed and left on the side of the road
A priest and a levite both traveled past
But both ignored him
But a Samaritin came passed and helped
He poured oil and wine over his wounds
And led him to an inn on his donkey
He then payed for him to stay, (2 denarii)
And promised to pay if anything extra was spent

The Lost Son

A

A man had two sons
The younger asked for his inheritance now
He left his brother and father
Spent all of his money on party’s and food
Soon ran out of money and had a job feeding pigs
He would of happily eaten the pigs food as no-one gave him anything
He thought that even his fathers servants would be treated better
So he would return and offer himself as a slave
He felt he was not worthy to be called his son

His father saw him approaching when he was still a way off
He embraced him warmly
The son apologised but the father put him in his best robe
Placed a ring on his finger
And ordered his servants to kill a fattened calf to celebrate
The older son refused to come into the house
Complaining that despite many years of being faithful
He was never given a party
“The younger son was dead and now alive”
“Lost and now found”

Q

The Sower

A

A large crowed gathered and Jesus told the following parable. A farmer sowed some seeds.

Some fell on the path but where trampled on by birds.
Some fell on the rocks but could not grow their roots
Some fell in thorns and where chocked on
And some fell on good soil and grew.

Jesus concluded by saying,”He who has ears to hear, let him hear”.
Jesus then explained that the seeds represented the word is God.

The seeds that fell on the path where like those who heard the word but it was taken away from them by the devil and could not be saved.

The seeds that fell on the rocks where like those that revived God’s words with joy, and beloved it for a while. But turned away when the going got tough.

The seeds that fell on the thorns where like those who heard the word, but where distracted by riches, and pleasure of the world.

The seeds that fell on good soil where like those who took in God’s words and kept it in their heart and preserved.
