- Word processor - Produce basic documents like letters
- DTP - For professional looking , attractive docs
- Spreadsheet - Calculate costs, produce invoices, keep accounts records
What is used in manufacturing? And what do they do?
- Computer aided Design (CAD) - Used to create 3D computer models & make instant changes to the design
- Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) - More accurate than traditional methods, CAD & CAM can improve quality & productivity & reduce human error.
What tech is used in shops?
Electronic Barcodes - Makes adding bills up easy, also helps with stock control - sales are recorded & when stock fall below the preset amount it is automatically ordered.
Tills allow payment by debit or credit card, funds are directly transferred from customer account to shops account.
What are the benefits of computers in the workplace?
- Reduce costs - Initial investment may be high but they save time & money in long term
- Increases Efficiency - Networked computers mean information can be stored centrally and accessed by many.
- Increases accuracy - Humans can make mistakes (humans can still input the data incorrectly though)
How do computers help Entrepreneurs?
- Mobile tech such as laptops & smartphones enable one to keep in touch when away from office.
- One can automate tasks, eg sending out marketing info to all previous customers at one time. Saves on staff & time
Specialist software allows untrained people to master many tasks, eg. Produce prof looking docs, manage finances, set-up a website.
What are the main problems with tech in the workplace?
Computers can go wrong, need replacing & could be costly, human error when using tech can cause problems.
