A
  • Type of product
  • Level of demand, how many you can sell
  • The cost, expensive machinery to improve output may not be possible for a small business

Explain “Job Production”

A

Making one thing at a time:

  • Each product can have a unique design, even based on cust specification
  • Often require high skilled labour & have a high labour to capital ratio (lots of worker but little financial investment)
  • Usually expensive item that take a long time to make & are high quality
  • EG. Ship, bridge, furniture, made to measure clothes

Explain “Batch production”

A

Making lots of identical products at one time:

  • When that batch is complete they re-organise and make a batch of something else
  • Suitable for products that are produced in limited quantities for limited amount of time
  • EG. Furniture, clothes, shoes
