Rifle

A

Given to all soldiers, lightweight, had a knife attached to the end called a bayonet for protection of bullets ran out. Rifle could shoot up to 15-20 bullets per min.

Machine gun

A

One of wars deadliest weapons. Fire up to 10 bullets per second. Losses of over 200,000 men due to this weapon. Was placed behind barbed wire in trenches to shoot

Artillery

A

Shot bombs (shells) over long distances. Usually soldiers bombarded enemies with this hours before an attack. Could kill lots of soldiers sheltered in dugouts with this. 400,000 shot every month along Western Front. Exploded red-hot metal splinters (shrapnel) cutting enemies to pieces. Noise damaged brains and made ears bleed.

Fighter and bomber planes

A

First appeared in 1903. Very slow, clumsy and unreliable. Used for keeping an eye on what the enemy was doing and spotting artillery. Pilots fired pistols and threw bricks at each other. Bomber planes were developed and dropped bombs from air
