द्रोणस्य पुत्रः द्रौपद्याः पुत्रान् व्यापादयत् ।
Droṇa’s son killed Draupadī’s sons.
तस्मात् पाण्डवानाम् दुःखम् आसीत् ।
Therefore, the Pāṇḍavas had misery.
ते द्रोणस्य पुत्रम् अन्वधावन् ।
They pursued Droṇa’s son.
सः तु ऋषिम् व्यासम् रक्षार्थम् अगच्छत् शरम् उत्तरायाः गर्भम् प्रत्यक्षिपत् च ।
However, he went to the sage Vyāsa for the purpose of protection and shot an arrow into Uttarā’s womb.
उत्तरायाः गर्भे अर्जुनस्य प्रपुत्रः आसीत् ।
Arjuna’s grandson was in Uttarā’s womb.
कृष्णेन तु शरः दृष्टः उत्तरा रक्षिता च ।
However, the arrow was seen by Kṛṣṇa and Uttarā was protected.
एवम् अर्जुनस्य प्रपुत्रः न हतः ।
Thus, Arjuna’s grandson was not killed.
पाण्डवाः द्रोणस्य पुत्रम् अजयन् ।
The Pāṇḍavas were victorious over Droṇa’s son.
तस्य ललाटे मणिः आसीत् ।
There was a jewel on his forehead.
द्रोणस्य पुत्रः भीमाय मणिम् अददात् ।
Droṇa’s son gave the jewel to Bhīma.
भीमः मणिम् द्रौपद्यै दत्त्वा द्रोणस्य पुत्रः मृतः इति ताम् अवदत् ।
Having given the jewel to Draupadī, Bhīma said to her, “Droṇa’s son is dead.”
द्रौपद्याः दुःखम् तु न नष्टम् ।
However, Draupadī’s misery was not destroyed.
मम पुत्राः हताः इति सा पुनः पुनः अचिन्तयत् ।
“My sons are killed,” she thought again and again.
तया मणिः युधिष्ठिराय दत्तः ॥
The jewel was given to Yudhiṣṭhira by her.
