Neurovascular Anatomy (Aneurysms and Stroke) Flashcards
Bunch of pictures of vasculature of the brain, no notes on the first lot of slides so learn the brain vasculature
wow
How is a subarachnoid haemorrhage usually diagnosed?
- History and examination
- CT scan
- Exclusion by absence of blood products in the CSF
What is a subarachnoid haemorrhage?
- Bleeding into the subarachnoid space, between the arachnoid and pia mater of the meninges
Where do most intracranial aneurysms arise?
The branch points of the Circle of Willis
Ways to treat intracranial aneurysms?
- Endovascular coil embolization
- Surgical clipping
- Treat complications (hydrocephalus/vasopastic infarcts)
What is endovascular coil embolization?
Catheter passed up the femoral artery to the brain, releases coils into the aneurysm which induce clotting
Which cerebral artery supplied left body strength and sensation?
The right middle cerebral artery (MCA)
- Surely Right ACA as well?
Which cerebral artery supplies right body strength, sensation and language?
The left middle cerebral artery
Which cerebral artery supplies perception of the left visual field?
- The right posterior cerebral artery
and vice versa
Which arteries supply the cerebellum?
- The posterior inferior cerebellar artery
- The anterior inferior cerebellar artery
- The superior cerebellar artery
Signs of cerebellar stroke?
- Ataxia
- Nystagmus
