Q

Parts of a neuron + functions (6 parts)

A
  • Cell body = Cell’s life-support center.
  • Dendrites = Receives messages from other cells.
  • Axon = Passes messages away from cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands
  • Neural impulse = Electrical signal travelling down axon
  • Terminal branches of axon = Form junctions with other cells
  • Myelin sheath = Covers axon of some neurons and helps speed neural impulses

Q

Sensory neurons

A

Neurons that carry incoming information from the sensory receptors to the brain and spinal cord. They have long dendrites and short axons.

Q

Relay neurons

A

These connect the sensory neurons to the motor or other relay neurons. They have short dendrites and short axons.
