Q

Siffre et al (1972) - (6 points)

A
  • AIM :
  • To investigate what it would be like for astronauts in space, where there were no external cues to affect our biological rhythms.
  • PROCEDURE :
  • Siffre went into a cave for 6 months and has food, water, a bed and a chair.
  • When he thought it was daytime, he would tell his research team ; who would then turn the lights on. And vice versa when it was night.
  • Siffre became lonely and despondent.
  • His mental health, memory and eyesight were all negatively affected.
  • Sleep wake cycle was 25 hours.
  • RESULTS :
  • Concluded that astronauts could manage their biological rhythm, without external cues, however will need a companion.
