What is Alzheimer’s Disease
Loss of brain cells, amyloid deposition in the brain, neurofibrillary tangles (tau proteins)
Sx of Alzheimer’s Disease
Progressive, chronic deterioration of selective functions
Memory loss and loss of impulse control, motor and cognitive functions
What do you see on imaging with Alzheimer’s Disease
Cerebral Cortex Atrophy
Tx of Alzheimer’s Disease
Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitors: Donepezil, Rivastigmine, Galantamine
NMDA antagonist: Memantine
What are Migraine Headaches
Unilateral
Classic: With Aura
Common: Without Aura
Sx of Migrain Headaches
Lateralizatoin, pulsatile/throbbing headache associated with N/V, Photophobia, Phonophobia for 4-72 hours
Worse with physical activity, stress, lack of sleep, alcohol
Tx of Migraine Headaches
Triptans, IV Dihydroergotamine (vasoconstrictors)
Dopamine Blockers for N/V
IV Fluids, NSAIDS
Prophylaxis: Beta Blockers, CCB, TCA
