is the paralysis of the body from at least the shoulders down
paraplegia
paralysis of the legs and lower body, typically caused by spinal injury or disease.
ataxia
a term for a group of disorders that affect co-ordination, balance and speech
dyslexia
a general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence.
aphasia
an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write.
rigidity
stiffness or inflexibility of the muscles
paresis
a condition of muscular weakness caused by nerve damage or disease; partial paralysis
hemiplegia
is a condition, caused by a brain injury, that results in a varying degree of weakness, stiffness (spasticity) and lack of control in one side of the body.
hypertonia
too much muscle tone so that arms or legs, for example, are stiff and difficult to move.
dysarthria
difficulty speaking caused by brain damage, which results in an inability to control the muscles used in speech
dysdiadochokinesis
is the inability to perform rapid alternating muscle movements
agnosia
inability to interpret sensations and hence to recognize things, typically as a result of brain damage.
hyporeflexia
an absent or diminished response to tapping. It usually indicates a disease that involves one or more of the components of the two-neuron reflex arc itself.
spaticity
abnormal muscle tightness due to prolonged muscle contraction
areflexia
a condition in which your muscles don’t respond to stimuli.
bradykinesia
means slowness of movement, and it is one of the cardinal symptoms of Parkinson’s
palsy
paralysis, especially that which is accompanied by involuntary tremors.
chorea
is a movement disorder that causes involuntary, irregular, unpredictable muscle movements
dysphonia
refers to having an abnormal voice. It is also known as hoarseness.
