Neurologic Flashcards
Thalamus function?
Involved in coordinating sensory and motor signals to the cerebral cortex as well of regulation of sleep.
Clinically significant changes when using SSEP ?
Decrease in amplitude of 50% or more or an increase in latency of more than 10%.
Clinically significant changes when using an EEG?
Ipsilateral or bilateral appearance of increase theta or delta activity
Suppression of alpha or beta activity of more than 50% or both
Epileptiform pattern with volatile anesthetics on the EEG
Isoflurane can be associated with isolated epileptiform patterns at 1.5 to 2.0 Mac but is not associated with Frank seizures.
Sevoflurane shows a similar pattern
Frank seizure activity has been seen in patients who are hyperventilated and receiving more than to Mac and Enflurane.
The correct order of sensitivity of sensory evoked potential’s to the effects of volatile anesthetics is
(From most sensitive to least sensitive )
1) visual evoked potentials
2) somatosensory evoked potentials and 3) brain stem Auditory evoked potentials.
Effect of Etomidate on SSEP ?
Increases latency and Amplitude
Effect of Ketamine on SSEP?
Increases amplitude
