Acetylcholine
In central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. Excitatory between nerve and muscle. Linked to Alzheimer’s.
GABA
The brains most common inhibitory. Low GABA = anxiety. Concentrated in the thalamus, hypothalamus, and the occipital lobe.
Dopamine
Linked to mood disorders. Schizophrenia.
Noradrenaline
Depression
Serotonin
Produced in the brain stem. Arousal.
Endorphins
Control of emotional behaviour. Neuromodulators. Modify or modulate the activity of the post synaptic Neuron
Lesion
Injury to or destruction of brain tissue
EEG
Recording of electrical activity of the brain
PET scan
Brain images obtained by taking detailed pictures of activity in the living brain during cognitive and behavioural activities
MRI
Colour enhanced profile of the brain
Functional MRI
Combination of an MRI and a PET Scan. Produces structural and functional images

Thick fibre holding two hemispheres together.
Endocrine System
Gland network that makes and secretes hormones into blood stream.
Hormone
Chemical messenger that regulates metabolism. Influences growth, mood, and sexual characteristics.
