Neuroanatomy Flashcards
1
Q
Limbic Cortex:
A
- Involved in processing emotions and some types of memory
2
Q
Insular Cortex:
A
- Autonomic visceral functions and taste
3
Q
Thalamus:
A
- Relay station
- Receives information from basal ganglia, cerebellum and all sensory systems except olfactory; processes the information, relays the selected information to the specific areas of the cerebral cortex
4
Q
Relay Nuclei:
A
- Convey information from the sensory systems, the basal ganglia, or the cerebellum to the cerebral cortex
- All relay nuclei are found in the ventral tier of the lateral group
5
Q
Association Nuclei:
A
- Process emotional and some memory information or integrate different types of sensation
- Found in the anterior thalamus, medial thalamus, and dorsal tier of the lateral thalamus
6
Q
Nonspecific Nuclei:
A
- Regulate consciousness, arousal, and attention
- Receive multiple types of input and project to widespread areas of cortex; this includes reticular, midline, and intralaminar nuclei
7
Q
Cerebellum:
A
- Primary site of coordination
- Called little brain
- Connects to the brainstem via peduncles
- Cerebellar lesions affect ipsilateral function
