Neuro - THE SPINAL CORD AND PERIPHERY Flashcards
how many neurones are there in each ascending pathway?
3 from peripheral receptor to cortex
which is the neurone which crosses over to the opposite side? where does this crossing-over take place?
the 2nd order neurone, the thalamus
how many neurones are there in each descending pathways?
2 from (upper motor neurone and lower motor neurone)
where do the descending pathway neurones decussate (crossover)?
in the opposite side of the brainstem
does the corticospinal tract contain UMN or LMN?
upper motor neurones
are the UMN or LMN responsible for muscle tone and reflexes? what happens if the one NOT responsible are damaged?
LMN, if the UMN are damaged, the reflexes and tone are exaggerated (spastic paralysis with hyperreflexia)
Y/N? some reflexes may be monosynaptic
Y
the lateral spinothalamic tract of the RIGHT side transmits pain and temperature from which side of the body?
LEFT
the lateral spinothalamic tract of the RIGHT side transmits touch, pressure and proprioception from which side of the body?
RIGHT
in Brown-Sequart syndrome, which side will suffer from loss of sensation of pain and temperature?
the opposite side of the injury
in Brown-Sequart syndrome, which side will suffer from loss of proprioception, touch and paralysis?
the side of the injury
in Brown-Sequart syndrome, which side will suffer from exaggerated reflexes?
the side of the injury
parasympathetic/sympathetic? which has a thoracolumbar outflow?
sympathetic
parasympathetic/sympathetic? which has a craniosacral outflow?
parasympathetic
parasympathetic/sympathetic? which has ganglia near the target organ?
parasympathetic
