CNI: sensory or motor? what is its function?
sensory, smell
CNII: sensory or motor? what is its function?
sensory, vision
CNIII: sensory or motor? what is its function?
general somatic motor- 4 extrinsic eye muscles and levator palpebrae superioris
general visceral motor- pupillary sphincter
CNIV: sensory or motor? what is its function?
motor, superior oblique
CNV1: sensory or motor? what is its function?
sensory, scalp, forehead and nose sensation
CNV2: sensory or motor? what is its function?
sensory, checks, lower eye lid, nasal mucosa, upper lip, upper teeth and palate
CNV3: sensory or motor? what is its function?
general somatic sensory - anterior 2/3 tongue, skin over mandible, lower teeth
motor - muscles of mastication
CNVI: sensory or motor? what is its function?
motor, lateral rectus
CNVII: sensory or motor? what is its function?
general somatic sensory- sensation to part of external ear
special visceral sensory- taste from anterior 2/3 of tongue, hard and soft palate
somatic motor- muscles of facial expression
visceral motor- lacrimal, submandibular, sublingual glands, mucous glands of mouth and nose
CNVIII: sensory or motor? what is its function?
sensory, hearing and balance
CNIX: sensory or motor? what is its function?
general somatic sensory- posterior 1/3 of tongue, external ear and middle ear cavity
general visceral sensory- carotid body and sinus
special visceral sensory- taste from posterior 1/3 of tongue
motor- parotid gland, stylopharyngeus
CNX: sensory or motor? what is its function?
general somatic sensation- external ear, larynx and pharynx
general visceral sensation- larynx, pharynx and thoracic & abdominal viscera
special visceral sensation- smooth muscles of pharynx, larynx and most of the GI tract
visceral motor - most muscles of pharynx and larynx (+ palatoglossus)
CNXI: sensory or motor? what is its function?
general somatic motor- trapezius and sternocleidomastoid
special visceral motor- a few fibres run with CNX to viscera
