Preferred meds for FOCAL seizures either simple (no loss of consciousness +motor , sensory symptoms) OR
Complex (Loss of concioius + postictial = lip smacking)
Carbamazepine
Gabapentine
Phenobarbital
Phenytoin
Seizure with loss of consciousness + postictal state (lip smaking) and diffuse muscles contraction of limbs followed by rhythmic jerking
Generalize Tonic Clonic seizure: use Lamotragine, Levetiracetam, Topiramate or Valproic Acid
Seizure with no loss of consciousness nor postiictal state but brief and jerky motions
Myoclonic
tx: Lamotrigine, Levetiracetam, Topiramate, Valproic acid
Seizure with blank stare, no post ictal state and may have automatixms
Absence seizure: use Ethosuximide
Dopamine antagonist that can tx Tourettes syndrome
Fluphenazine
What Benzo can be used to acutely tx prolongued seizure such as status eplepticus
Diazepam
Non selective B-Blocker used to tx essential tremor (tremor of both hands) that worsens during fine motor activity.
Propranolol
A GABA-B agonist used to tx muscle spasticity with increaes tone and spasms
Baclofen
