Neuro Ix Flashcards
1
Q
When is CT study of choice? how is it usually done?
A
- acute trauma and haemorrhage
- usually given with contrast to enhance tumours, infections & infarcts
2
Q
how can MRI brain be done?
A
- T1 weighted images: enhance acute haemorrhage
- only FAT is bright
- T2 weighted images: oedema, infarction, demyelination & chronic haemorrhage
- FAT AND WATER are bright
3
Q
What is EEG and when is it done?
A
electrical activity of the brain is recorded, important in evaluating epilepsy
4
Q
What are evoked potentials and when is it used?
A
Nerves are repetitively stimulated and & electrical potentials are measured.
Commonest use is to diagnose MS
5
Q
What are nerve conduction studies?
A
nerves are stimulated & the electrical activity recorded from different points
6
Q
what is EMG and what is it used for?
A
- records electrical potentials from needle electrodes in muscle at rest & during contraction
- can differentiate between neuropathic and myopathic disorders
7
Q
what is a LP?
A
CSF taken via needle inserted into spinal comumn between L3/4 or L4/5
